Why should I consider a dental implant?
There are many reasons why you should consider getting a dental implant. While implants are often considered for aesthetic reasons, they have many other benefits.
When you lose a tooth, the bone surrounding that tooth will gradually lose it's density and will slowly retract. This can cause some of the surrounding natural teeth to lose their stability and without the support of an adjacent tooth, your teeth can drift out of position. This has both aesthetic and functional consequences and can affect your bite.
Dental implants are a permanent replacement for a missing tooth. Once planted correctly, there is no special maintenance needed (unlike dentures which require constant maintenance). You simply treat it like a natural tooth, brushing and flossing regularly!
Restores your ability to chew naturally.
Completed correctly, dental implants are aesthetically pleasing and look completely natural, blending in perfectly with your other teeth.
With an experienced dentist, the success rate of dental implants is very high.
Is a dental implant right for me?
Dental implants are a really great way to replace a missing tooth. But first, it is important to make sure you are a suitable candidate for a dental implant or implants. Ensuring your overall oral health is good and ensuring you have adequate bone and gums is vital to the success of the implant. To do this we will talk to you about your overall health and any existing conditions, take x-rays to inspect your jawbone and gum thickness, and we’ll make sure everything that can be considered is considered!
At My Dental Moments, our dentists are very experienced when it comes to dental implants so we have a very high success rate. We'll let you know if we don't think a dental implant is a viable option for you and we'll explore other options with you if that is the case (bone grafts, bridges, partial dentures, etc).
If you are a suitable candidate the next step is for us to insert a titanium implant post into your jawbone. Following this procedure, we’ll need to give it time to heal and let the implant post integrate with your jawbone. Finally, we’ll have you come back in to have your new crown fitted so it looks natural and will serve as your new replacement tooth!
