Why choose Invisalign?

When you feel confident in your smile, the people around you notice. Everyone deserves to be proud of their appearance. If you have teeth that are gapped, crowded or misaligned or a bite that doesn’t line up properly, Invisalign can be the ideal way to correct it. With revolutionary technology and a subtle appearance, Invisalign has changed what you've originally thought of orthodontic realignment. Invisalign is created with your health at the forefront, using only biocompatible materials, it is BPA-free and phthalate-free, ensuring the best possible outcomes for you.

The many advantages of choosing Invisalign include:

  • Addresses a range of orthodontic problems

  • Non-invasive procedure

  • Easily removable for mealtimes, or when brushing and flossing teeth

  • Comfortable to wear

  • Doesn’t jeopardise the health of your other teeth

  • Transparent design means only results are noticed not the product

Pros and cons of Invisalign

Often when contemplating the right orthodontic treatment for you, the benefits of Invisalign will be weighed against the benefits of traditional braces. If you make an appointment with our team, we will help talk you through this decision. Some of the pros and cons of Invisalign we may discuss include:

Benefits of Invisalign

  • Aesthetics – Invisalign is the ultimate secret weapon in creating your perfect smile. Virtually invisible, it slides over teeth guiding them into place without anyone noticing. This has many benefits for anyone who may not want the noticeable brackets and wires of traditional braces. No one will comment on your Invisalign, only their results!

  • Removable – Easily sliding on and off, the aligners can be removed when eating, and when cleaning teeth. This means that you do not have to change what you eat, and there is no need to worry about food being stuck in your braces! It also allows for easier brushing and flossing and no need to learn new methods.

  • Comfortable - Aligners are made of special plastic and are individually modified to seamlessly fit your gums, providing extreme comfort. Unlike braces Invisalign does not cut your gums or require salt washes.

  • Fewer consultations – Due to the nature of Invisalign, most of the orthodontist’s work is required in the early stages, creating the treatment plan. This means aside from giving you the aligners and directing you when to change them, there is only minimal progress maintenance, and no orthodontic adjustments like braces.

Disadvantages of Invisalign

  • Slower treatment time – whilst treatment times varies from patient to patient, on average braces tend to be faster than Invisalign when realigning teeth and closing gaps. This is due to the steady but gradual nature of Invisalign and is something to consider when discussing options with your orthodontist.

  • Removable – this is both a negative and a positive, depending on you! This is because despite the fact removing your aligners makes some things easier, it also requires discipline. For Invisalign to be effective they need to be worn for 20-22 hours a day, so if you take them out you must remember to put them back on. Also, because they must be removed to eat some people may find it inconvenient or embarrassing to remove them in public.

  • Effectiveness – Invisalign is not the best treatment method for all orthodontic problems and is usually recommended for mild to moderate conditions. This is something you should be able to discuss with your orthodontist and they will be able to determine if Invisalign is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does treatment with Invisalign take?

You will receive an estimate of your treatment times at your consultation with us. We’ll need to evaluate your teeth first and discuss what you would like to achieve, which will give us a time frame. The length of treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on your personal needs. On average, adults take 12-18 months to complete their Invisalign treatment.

What is the process to get Invisalign?

Once we have decided that Invisalign is right for you, the next step is to gather information. X-rays, photos and scans of your teeth are taken, then used to create your 3D treatment plan. This program is used in the Invisalign laboratory to custom-create your sets of aligners. The laboratory will produce them, then send them back to us so that you can pick them up and start wearing them.

Will I need to see you for checkups?

Yes, though not as many checkups are necessary with Invisalign as they are for traditional braces. We’ll see you approximately every 6-8 weeks to evaluate your progress.

How often do I change to a new set of aligners?

You’ll typically change into a new aligner set every two weeks. We’ll advise you on what is most appropriate for you, however, so that you know exactly what to do to get the best results.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign can correct many teeth alignment issues. In some circumstances, we may recommend traditional braces or alternative treatments. The only way to know for certain whether it’s right for you is to schedule a consultation with an Invisalign-certified dentist such as Dr Karen Lee at My Dental Moments!

How does Invisalign work?

Once we have decided that Invisalign is right for you, the next step is to gather information to create your unique treatment plan. Your journey begins using advanced 3D scanners to comfortably take incredibly precise 3D digital images of your mouth. These images are used to create a digital map of your dental movement to demonstrate how your teeth will appear after treatment. These images are also used to create a unique model that will be used to create your aligners that will be placed over your teeth. These aligners will apply sustained pressure to your teeth to steadily move them into the desired location, after a few weeks they will be replaced by the next aligner and this process will continue until the treatment is complete.
